Newbold Sea Scouts is a small, but very active scout group in
the heart of Warwickshire. Being a sea scout troop our activities tend to
be water-based - especially during the summer. The scout hut, despite being
one of the most inland scout huts, is situated in a ideal place next to the
River Stour. The river is perfect for teaching canoeing, big enough to have
enough space to manouver but small enough that supervision isn't a problem.
During the summer, the scouts go out on the water every week - working
towards their canoeing badges and generally messing about and having
fun. Next year we aim to run a scout camp so that the scouts can learn
to sail, try their hand at pulling and go canoeing on a different bit
of water.
In the winter, we do more traditional scouting activities. Night hikes
and outdoor cook nights are always favourites! We also use the winter
to catch up on the ever-growing list of repairs that need to be done,
be it boats, tents or to the hut itself.
